Jonathan W: Do you want to get that A+ in math? Are you just trying to pass? Or, are you somewhere in between? No problem! I can help students with various needs perform well in their math classes. I feel that anyone can excel at math. The content isn’t very difficult. All it takes is something to relate to. I can relate math to those who are athletically inclined as well as those who are artistically inclined. I use simple words rather than complicated math jargon to break down seemingly difficult problems. I also use fun pneumonic devices that are much more helpful that an intimidating textbook. I have predominantly worked with high school students that need help with Algebra and Geometry. I have helped athletes pass their exams, so they can be eligible to play in their respective sport. I have also helped students with crash-courses on final exams, just to get credit for the semester. Whatever the needs of the student are, I can create a lesson plan that yields results.

Matthew W: I completed my bachelor’s degree with honors in Government, History, Russian/Eastern European Studies, and Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin. I then went on to complete my master’s degree in Social Sciences at The University of Chicago, and obtained 36 hours of additional graduate credit in Education at The University of St. Thomas. I am currently enrolled as a first year student at The University of Texas School of Law. My background in education, which has spanned four years, afforded me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students. This has included students in their initial classes at community college, high school students enrolled in early college classes, special education resource and inclusion settings, and students who were attending both high school and middle school while completing substance abuse rehabilitation. I have ample experience in teaching ELA, social studies (world and US history, government, and social studies electives), and college-readiness classes. Working with students at the individual and small group level has been a wonderful experience for me as it allows me to really get to know the interests of a student and how I can relate subject matter to those interests.

Grant W: At the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), I double-majored in Chemistry and Psychology, earning both a B.S. and a B.A., respectively, and minored in Biological Science. For the past three years, I have tutored primarily college students as a teaching assistant both at USM and UT-Austin, where I am presently employed as a teaching assistant. I approach tutoring the way one might approach sales by establishing a common ground with the student on which I venture to convince the student that the imminent material is personally relevant and compelling. Because of the inherent difficulty in making this sale, I emphasize patience and understanding in my efforts to engage students on a personal level by making the material relevant to each student individually. Of course, this is where private, one-on-one tutoring is invaluable. My goal as a private tutor is to, as quickly as possible, develop a rapport with students while keeping an evolving eye on the most efficient route of captivating students’ interests in order to effectively and succinctly communicate the information needed by students so that they may confidently meet the demanding rigors that define modern academic success.

Jessica G: I graduated from Valparaiso, University in 2008 with my minor in Business Education and Mathematics and received my bachelor’s degree in Middle Level Education. I have taught high school math and careers and business courses for 1.5 years. I then taught middle school math, writing, and social studies for an additional 2 years. As a general education teacher, I created and implemented my own curriculum at a data driven Charter School in Gary, Indiana. Understanding the necessity to remediate and accelerate, I have a well rounded knowledge of classroom instruction, note taking, and test preparation. In December 2012, I earned my Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. While I was earning my masters, I tutored in home to elementary students in both reading and math. Using strategies to help manage behavior and instructing “non-typical learners” to meet personal goals. Through this experience, I have taught learners as young as 22 months and help prepare young learners for preschool. Having taught special education as well, I feel confident in my ability to prepare all learners for standardized test, classroom success, as well as provide strategies to help each child understand how to learn. I am excited to meet the needs of any learner.

Aine C: I love working with children and helping them learn and feel successful. I am a middle school teacher, and I feel that I have truly found my calling in life. Before that, I taught high school for three years. This is my 7th year teaching, and over the years I have worked with many different types of learners. I don’t believe in ever giving up on a child, no matter what. I am very patient and positive. I enjoy finding creative ways of re-teaching challenging concepts. I hope that some of my enthusiasm for learning will “rub off” on my students.
I have a B.A. in Comparative Languages and Linguistics from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. I have had the opportunity to travel to many different countries, and I bring those experiences into my language lessons as much as possible. I am a certified teacher in both Spanish and French and I teach English as well.

Dominique (Nikki) B: I am currently pursuing a career in medicine and finishing up Medical School in May of 2013. I went to Lehigh University for undergrad and received a Bachelor’s in Science in Molecular Biology. I then went to Drexel University Philadelphia and obtained a Master’s in Science in Biomedical Science. Before I pursued a career in medicine, I did a year of industrial research. Teaching has always been my passion, not only to my future patients but to students of all ages. My time as a tutor has been a wonderful, emotional, and fulfilling experience. Subjects I prefer to tutor are the following: Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, Psychology, Inorganic & Organic Chemistry, and Math. Today's teachers and students are partners in the process of learning. Interaction between the two serves as a catalyst for understanding and motivation for success. I am able to help students understand their work better and expand their knowledge in the subject. Lessons are planned and tailored specially for individual students according to their level and needs.

Holly N: I love working with middle and high school students. I currently work at a middle school in Leander ISD, but my favorite subjects are teaching Chemistry, Physics, and Geometry to struggling or advanced high school students. I have a Bachelor’s in Biology and a Master’s in Education. I have a diverse field of knowledge, but my specialties are math and science. If you are struggling with math or science then I am the tutor for you. I know these subjects backwards and forwards, and can teach them to any student. Tutoring and teaching are the things I live for, other than my own two children. I care about my students and want them to succeed. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to help a kid that might not succeed without me. When I went to tutoring as a 2nd grade student, I never thought I would be salutatorian or captain of the science bowl in high school, or that I would graduate early from high school. I have found that motivation and study skills go a long way with students, and I stress the importance of good study skills to all of my students so that they can succeed in college and beyond. I also have extensive knowledge and training on the STAAR and EOC tests, and can help students prepare for these tests. I have worked on STAAR preparation in all grade levels elementary through high school, and my students have been field tested on the EOC exam for the past three years in a row. I also had lower failure rates and higher grade averages than any of my colleagues for the last two years. I obtained my master’s by the age of 24 while teaching full-time physics and credit recovery, so I know how it is to set high expectations and then meet them.
