Nancy V: Learning new concepts can sometimes be overwhelming or challenging for students. As your tutor, I hope to come along side you and offer a hand of encouragement and support in your learning journey. As an educator with 12 years of experience, I look forward to the opportunity to share my skills and offer academic support to students in a variety of subject matter. I come to Alpha Home Tutors with a wealth of knowledge in both classroom teaching at the elementary level in grades K-5, as well as On-line instruction with small groups. Tutoring 1 on 1 will offer an even more rich and catered format of learning. A few areas that I may offer support for students 1 on 1, are Reading comprehension and fluency, Math intervention or on-going grade level support in K-5. I welcome family and teacher input to guide and inform me on how to best support each student. Students are welcome to provide their assignments and lessons for direct help or I can provide resources to enhance the learning process.  It would be my pleasure to come along side you as you make strides to be the best student you can be!

Jonathan W: Do you want to get that A+ in math? Are you just trying to pass? Or, are you somewhere in between? No problem! I can help students with various needs perform well in their math classes. I feel that anyone can excel at math. The content isn’t very difficult. All it takes is something to relate to. I can relate math to those who are athletically inclined as well as those who are artistically inclined. I use simple words rather than complicated math jargon to break down seemingly difficult problems. I also use fun pneumonic devices that are much more helpful that an intimidating textbook. I have predominantly worked with high school students that need help with Algebra and Geometry. I have helped athletes pass their exams, so they can be eligible to play in their respective sports. I have also helped students with crash courses on final exams, just to get credit for the semester. Whatever the needs of the student are, I can create a lesson plan that yields results.

Jessica G: I graduated from Valparaiso, University in 2008 with my minor in Business Education and Mathematics and received my bachelor’s degree in Middle Level Education. I have taught high school math and careers and business courses for 1.5 years. I then taught middle school math, writing, and social studies for an additional 2 years. As a general education teacher, I created and implemented my own curriculum at a data driven Charter School in Gary, Indiana. Understanding the necessity to remediate and accelerate, I have a well rounded knowledge of classroom instruction, note taking, and test preparation. In December 2012, I earned my Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. While I was earning my masters, I tutored in home to elementary students in both reading and math. Using strategies to help manage behavior and instructing “non-typical learners” to meet personal goals. Through this experience, I have taught learners as young as 22 months and help prepare young learners for preschool. Having taught special education as well, I feel confident in my ability to prepare all learners for standardized test, classroom success, as well as provide strategies to help each child understand how to learn. I am excited to meet the needs of any learner.

Dominique (Nikki) B: I am currently pursuing a career in medicine and finishing up Medical School in May of 2013. I went to Lehigh University for undergrad and received a Bachelor’s in Science in Molecular Biology. I then went to Drexel University Philadelphia and obtained a Master’s in Science in Biomedical Science. Before I pursued a career in medicine, I did a year of industrial research. Teaching has always been my passion, not only to my future patients but to students of all ages. My time as a tutor has been a wonderful, emotional, and fulfilling experience. Today's teachers and students are partners in the process of learning. Interaction between the two serves as a catalyst for understanding and motivation for success. I am able to help students understand their work better and expand their knowledge in the subject. Lessons are planned and tailored specially for individual students according to their level and needs.

Holly N: I love working with middle and high school students. I currently work at a middle school in Leander ISD, but my favorite subjects are teaching Chemistry, Physics, and Geometry to struggling or advanced high school students. I have a Bachelor’s in Biology and a Master’s in Education. I have a diverse field of knowledge, but my specialties are math and science. If you are struggling with math or science then I am the tutor for you. I know these subjects backwards and forwards, and can teach them to any student. Tutoring and teaching are the things I live for, other than my own two children. I care about my students and want them to succeed. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to help a kid that might not succeed without me. When I went to tutoring as a 2nd grade student, I never thought I would be salutatorian or captain of the science bowl in high school, or that I would graduate early from high school. I have found that motivation and study skills go a long way with students, and I stress the importance of good study skills to all of my students so that they can succeed in college and beyond. I also have extensive knowledge and training on the STAAR and EOC tests, and I can help students prepare for these tests. I have worked on STAAR preparation in all grade levels elementary through high school, and my students have been field tested on the EOC exam for the past three years in a row. I also had lower failure rates and higher grade averages than any of my colleagues for the last two years. I obtained my master’s by the age of 24 while teaching full-time physics and credit recovery, so I know how it is to set high expectations and then meet them.
